LOST – Sayid Takes Center Stage

naveenandrews.jpgTonight’s episode was great – Naveen Andrews’ character Sayid got lots of screen time, something I always appreciate. (I’ve been a big fan of Andrews’ acting since THE ENGLISH PATIENT.) And boy, does he look equally good in a tux as he does a muscle T! (Hopefully that isn’t giving too much away… LOL)

For a show that’s supposed to be ‘answering all your questions’ before they go off the air, I swear they just keep adding more to the mix. (Maybe that’s the producers’ way of trying to get the show some more time. OK, wishful thinking, I know.)

BTW, am I the only one to notice that Oceanic Flight 815 had way more than its share of great looking men on board than on any flight I’ve ever taken? Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Charlie, Jin, Michael, and Eko (not to mention Desmond already on the island…) I wonder – were they trying to hint that if you see a bunch of gorgeous looking guys boarding your flight, skip it as it will probably crash on a mysterious island? LOL

Off to go rewatch tonight’s ep to see what little nuances I may have missed the first time through.

LOST – Too Much Review, Not Enough New

February 1, 2008 by Spotlight-on WM

losttheory.jpgTonight was finally the beginning of the end of LOST (according to the Powers That Be) so I was hoping for at least what the many, frequent commercials promised. However, instead of the scenes they’ve been previewing for weeks now, it still felt more like review than new. (And yes, I know the first hour WAS a review show – I’m talking about the “all new episode” we’ve all been waiting for that was shown as the 2nd hour.)

They’re getting a lot like soap operas it seems – taking one plot point and stretching it out until it screams (or we do)…

The commercials have been showing what are probably scenes from the next 3-4 episodes, not just the next one, which drives me crazy because I keep waiting for certain things to happen and then suddenly you find youself watching the end credits and now you have to wait another week to see if those promised scenes will finally happen then. I miss the “good old days” when teasers/previews actually reflected what you would be seeing next and only that, piecing out cliffhangers that were pertinent.

I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who didn’t catch it tonight so I won’t go into what finally happened and what is still coming. Just felt like venting over network advertising practices.

LOST – Whose Bright Idea Was the Captioning?

lostcast.gifTalk about extremely annoying – tonight’s episode / recap of LOST — which we’ve been waiting for how long now? — is using a stupid ‘captioning’ system at the bottom of the screen to give you ‘back stories’ and ‘on screen facts’ while they use flashbacks to pretty much show you the same thing while talking about it, too. What? Did the writers have a VH1 fixation with the pop-up screen facts thingy and had to find a way to work it into the show? Or maybe they’ve taken a page from channel G4 and the “Star Trek 2.0 Interactive” repeats that have ongoing comments at the bottom of the screen and factoids along the edges, with the show only being a small section of the screen (another channel/show I avoid like the plague when they do that.)

I’ve noticed the LOST guys managed to stop the dratted pop-up comments only during credits. Heaven forbid we should be distracted from those. I mean, I’ve waited all this time just to see who crews the show, haven’t you?

If they manage to do this distracting captioning every episode, and not just this recap version, I’ll have to reconsider watching the series this season. (Maybe I’ll just have to wait for the end of year 2 1/2 minute “distilled version”, eh?)

I don’t know about you, but I watch TV to see and hear an action/adventure story – otherwise I’d pick up a book if I wanted to read it, eh?… <sigh>

23 hours and counting until the beginning of the new season!

(Now the commercials for the new season each featuring a different character are actually quite funny and good, though… )

Anyone Remember LOST?

It used to be if you missed an episode of a show, you could just wait until summer to see the whole series repeated. (Does that date me much? LOL) Then it became possible to watch a missed ep later in the week when networks would show a program more than once in a week for people who actually worked and didn’t know how to program a VCR. As time progressed (and as did technology) you could hop over to the official website to catch the episodes you managed to miss TIVO’ing.

Now ABC has found a way to make it even easier: they’ve managed to condense 3 years of LOST episodes into 1 eight minute (hilarious video) summarizing “everything” you need to know before Jan 31st, the date the 4th season FINALLY begins!  (After THIS much time, it feels almost more like a reunion show than a season, doesn’t it?)

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

So who needs 3 LOST DVDs boxsets with over 60 hours of shows when the story just really boils down to 8 minutes, eh?

:)
