TRIKKE – Fun Way to Get in Shape?

This will teach me to watch late night TV! I saw a commercial for the newest TRIKKE (pronounced the same as trike) Carving Vehicles models and am fascinated with the way they work. (Even the simple animation makes it look like it would be a blast…)

Trikke - Take a Ride.

I always thought inline skating would be fun, or playing around with a Razor scooter or even just a plain skateboard, but I don’t have the balance it takes to ride something with only 2 wheels or all the wheels in a line but no handles. I need to get some exercise (don’t we all!), but most of them get sooo boring so quickly. But when I saw theTRIKKE, with its 3 wheel design, upright handlebar (including brakes!), and the neat rocking and rolling motion it uses to propel you down the road, I was very interested as it looks like it could really be fun. Plus since it folds down and is light enough to carry, it would be easy to store out of the way when not in use.

Has anyone got one? Know anyone who’s used one? Good? Bad? Indifferent? Is it as fun as it looks? I’ve no doubt it would definitely give you a workout, but does it really burn more calories than jogging (with what looks like a lot less stress on the joints)? And is it as stable as it seems? (Klutzes like me want to know! LOL) I can just see my nephew zooming around his neighborhood on this, but then again, he’s also mastered riding a unicylce, so maybe he wouldn’t be the best test case.

Here’s a video of the TRIKKE so you can see more of it in action if you haven’t seen one before – what am I missing about it, if anything?
